Purpose of eAccelerator: It caches common dynamic page functions in memory. In otherwords speeds up your dynamic PHP scripts 1-10x faster (especially forums/CMS's). Hope you notice a difference.

Purpose of Zend Optimizer: Decodes Zend encoded scripts.


UPDATE 17 MARCH 07:
It's been found that eAccelerator was a very bad move from the beginning. Out of accidental experimentation, when it was turned off, CPU resources instantly fell down so low, that one felt compelled to meet the eAccelerator programmer and handle him from there (if you know what I mean!).
