Hello, I am the CEO of a small card board box company that makes custom sized and shaped cardboard boxes. Because this is a small operation, our company has been utilizing the 110mb subdomain box18.110mb.com. Why box 18? Simply because at the time we started our company we produced 18 different shaped boxes that customers could order to the size they want. Thanks to our web site, we have been inundated with orders and have also started producing egg, spherical, and conical shaped cardboard boxes. These boxes can be made to whatever size the client wants. We are also entering talks with a large American shipping company to provide different shaped card board boxes in their store locations. As you can see our business is starting to take off. Earlier today I noticed this topic: http://www.110mb.com/forum/box18110mbcom-t49155.0.html which indicates that 110mb plans to use the subdomain box18 for their new server. This makes me wonder if my site, box18.110mb.com is really safe? I've asked a couple of times over their and never received any reply from an admin. Therefore, Admiral Awesome suggested I make a topic over here about it with the subject he gave. Thus, my question: Is my website safe here or is it going to be deleted? Thank you very much for your help with this. -Matt J. CEO of Boxes R Us

Your subdomain will be kicked by dns when it changes. Choose another subdomain and move to it

Are you sure? As a mod people expect you to have a more direct line to the Admins, so please tell us that you talked to Andre or another admin and they have told you this. Otherwise it was really inappropriate to post that.

box18: wait for an ADMIN reply on this one. You shouldn't get kicked, that would be unfair. But some would argue that the ads are unfair as well....

When it is propogated. Box 18 will either go to login page(if not logged in) or go to the user control panel for box 18. THe current site will no longer be accessible

And the conclusion is?... 110mb admin(s) don't care. Don't care to prevent such situations ( #^box[0-9]{1,2}$#). Don't care for single user and his website if such situation appear. @ box18 As long as your website is accessible - create box18.110mb.com/register.php page, link everywhere and do whatever you want with the traffic.

So what I'm being told is that my website, which I have had running here since ~April 2009 and which I have paid for upgrades for, is just going to magically dissappear by the end of December? But what about my business? I don't have a .com or .net domain, all my boxes are printed with "Order more boxes from: (new line) http://box18.110mb.com". So pretty much I'm screwed. @Piotr GRD: Any suggestions? -Matt J

box18, PM andre directly. He'll probably be able to move you, your files, and your upgrades to a new subdomain. Personally, I think that andre should just skip 18, and use a different number - why not fill the box1's, box2's, and box3's.

why were they not done in the beginning to begin with but if he skips 18 he would also have to skip 19,20,21 tho the only really fully working sites are 19/21... only these 2 should be skipped if able...

Dont ever pm andre as he will more than likely not reply without his permission. As for box18 you will be moved to another server with a different subdomain

So just to make sure I am understanding everything correctly, my files will remain intact but I will lose my web address http://box18.110mb.com? Is 110mb going to compensate me for the lost traffic from all the boxes I have made in the past that have this address printed on them? Forgive me for seeming unreasonable but how would you feel if someone told you, "Hey, you can't have 110mb.com any more because my hard drive company is making a new hard drive of that size and we need the domain!" Clearly this is unreasonable. The system kicks out other domains, why didn't it kick out http://box18.110mb.com when I registered my account here? Seems to me that the server "box18.110mb.com" should be skipped since that subdomain is already in use or just have a different subdomain assigned to it. Thanks for your help with this. -Matt J

htaccess enabled on box18. Start redirecting traffic to another site, via this line: Redirect 301 / http://www.new-site.com/Should train your visitors that box18 is no longer in service.

I have done in the past, and he was very kind indeed. htaccess enabled on box18. Not being funny andre, but you could at least offer him an automated transfer to another subdomain.

htaccess enabled on box18. Start redirecting traffic to another site, via this line: Redirect 301 / http://www.new-site.com/Should train your visitors that box18 is no longer in service. @box18 This means, that you have to create a file named .htaccess (with nothing else in it) first, register a new user on 110mb, name it something similar and easy to remember but non-trouble giving in the future(I will refer to it as xxx from now on). second, backup all the files from box18.110mb.com account and upload them to xxx.110mb.com where xxx would be something that you registered yourself. Note; on your new account you won't have FTP for uploading, so you should ZIP the files and unpack them on the server with the filemanager.) then, go to notepad, adn enter in the line Andre gave you, Redirect 301 / http://xxx.110mb.com/ (do not use www.xxx.110mb.com, that is wrong.) save it as ".htaccess" with something similiar to "different/other filetype" (in any way, not the .txt extension) upload this file to box18.110mb.com account (not the new one) Also put a notice on your website, stating that soon, box18.110mb.com will not work anymore, and that the new address is to be xxx.110mb.com this should do the trick for a while, people will see that box18 does not refer to your account anymore as they are now redirected by the .htaccess file so they will know something is abou to happen =)

Added to the above redirect, I would suggest to buy a domain name, and redirect to that domain name instead of another 110mb account. So that people will know that you are upgrading your site from free host to paid one :d
I feel it is a better option.
