ok a revision of my thoughts based on what others say:

disk space: 1GB ($5 upgrade to 5GB)
bandwidth: 10GB [i've warmed to that idea... it's just fine no-one running on a free host should need more than that] ($10 upgrade to 50GB)
ftp: request free activation if required (comes with a 50mb data cap)

now for my rendition of the paid possibility:

base pack: $2.99/mo
disk space: 10GB ($1 upgrade per extra 5GB)
Traffic: 50GB ($1 per extra 10GB)
addon domain: 1
subdomain: 5
extras: MySQL (5)/fsockopen/CGI/Sendmail (Full) /Htaccess/ftp(1 account)

med pack:3.99/mo
disk space: 25GB ($1 upgrade per extra 5GB)
Traffic: 100GB ($1 per extra 10GB)
addon domain: 3
subdomain: 15
extras: MySQL (10)/fsockopen/CGI/Perl/Python/Sendmail (Full) /Htaccess/ftp(5 accounts)

full pack:5.99/mo
disk space: 50GB ($1 upgrade per extra 5GB)
Traffic: 300GB ($1 per extra 10GB)
addon domain: 10
subdomain: unlim
extras: MySQL (unlim)/fsockopen/CGI/Perl/Python/Sendmail (Full) /Htaccess/ftp(unlim accounts)

all of the packs may or may not come with email box features as 110mb may see fit.

not make FTP capped, but "throttled" 15K/s or something..

or max 5M/s across 50 connections.. (when you only one on FTP, real fast)

I don't really like those paid packs, because Vexxhost shared hosting is the same price as the base package, and Vexx provides a whole lot more than that. They have 10TB bandwidth, 1TB space, and everything enabled except FFMPEG-PHP. And you get a free domain name.

I think there may be a solution here, if the registration page has something like:
Quote

unfortunately due to unwanted and excessive abuse of our free service and to recoup associated loses, until further notice, the follow cut down services are only offered to new member wanting free hosting with 110mb.com:

...(insert new specs here)

These restrictions may be lifted in the future, but until further notice, they are the policy for new members.

What say ye Andre.. (if you still even bother reading this thread Smiley since its already the new policy)

Wait doesnt the database maximum size depend on how much space you have left? Less space = smaller database  undecided

actually thats no solution all that will do is scare people away or make them hold out seeing if it will change... their is very little thats can be done on our side now since Andre prob has not looked at this thread... And chances are he wont either... but all in all hes most likely not going to get more money for this move but actually loss of income as this is going to happen:

New user:
*looks at the list sees not FTP and a huge drop since last time visited (possibly) or what others say it gives*
hmmm maybe a mistake?
*confirms changes and walks.*
or finding out they have to pay for FTP just walk right their.
If 110 was like this in 07 when i first registered i would not of joined... i joined due to (i think as i did have a working send mail stuff) Send mail MySQL and various other tools including FTP but if i put these settings on that date i would walk as nothing is free but space and bandwidth (same as when i joined 110MB 10GB bandwidth)

until this is changed i wont be appointing any one else to 110... i got a old friend to sign up for 110 before B16 closed but if he could not sign up on B16 and he signed up for B17 the minute i found out about this i would of told him delete the account and go to this place instead.

Wait doesnt the database maximum size depend on how much space you have left? Less space = smaller database  undecided

which would mean upgrading your mysql only is point less... FREE DBs TO THE RESCUE Cheesy

so in order to get a good fully working DB site you need to spend like 20 bucks O.o were as before only 10 now whos going to pay that? x10s CP is usually the one that goes down (first) FTP still works and your site might be a little slow during the CP downtime but if it beats paying 20 bucks i would go their. just to make my visitors to wait up to 1 second (or 2) longer to load a page O.o hmmm if i got 20k viewers in a day/week or even a month then i might pay for the better server but if i got that many i throw ads on and run my own server O.o and possibly make money and i know if it goes down i know it will be fixed asap and not in 2 or 3 days >.> as sometimes the fact here on 110... and almost every were else

we have exactly the same frame of thought mel, they're basically huge success as a free host, too good to keep going with the same business model, but rather than going bigger and capitalizing on that success they're neutering their business. Sure they'll be able to deal with it, but the problem is they'll only lose people, and as the old customers move on or whatever they won't get the new ones to replace them.

what they're effectively doing is just doing euthanasia to a business that showed too much success

Old system was, all free members get:

1) 5GB Space
2) 300GB Bandwidth
3) FTP on by default.

New system (as of 18th Feb 09), all free members get:

1) 110MB Space (Upgradable to 50GB Space)
2) 10GB Bandwidth (Upgradable to 1TB Bandwidth)
3) FTP off by default (Upgradable to FTP on.)

I'm a tad annoyed as i joined just days after this, but i was following a link from a messageboard written ages ago and as such wasn't expecting more than i got.

Whats a tad more annoying is that the affliate pre-made banners still say the old webspace spec, so it's impossible to use them.

yep and also going along with their first reason for joining not going against it:

They go broke or disappear overnight within 2-4 months of opening. (Because owner started or purchased free hosting for sole reason of making tons of money with it. And quickly realizing he's got competitors and free hosting industry is tough as nails to make money with -- he simply lost motivation, enthusiasm and closed the site down. Or because lack of knowledge on how to keep it alive or fight against constant service abuse.)
instead of the time frame given they are going to go under in 5 years after opening if not sooner as when did 110 open? i forget now...

Quote
One (eLabs) is based on server administration for other companies or services, hosting, and C#/PHP/MySQL programming.

The other (Speed Success, Inc.) is based on distributing and creating thousands of products a year via mail order and internet marketing, self-help & eBay coaching and worldwide dropshipping.

2 companies joined together mean:

Huge amounts of funds to run 110MB infrastructure. (Impossible to go bankrupt)

110MB hosting has a team of Linux, Solaris and Windows administrators to keep it running during the toughest technical challenges.
I have a few questions Andre...
1. DID your two supposed parent companies grant this change? if not did you at least tell them? as if they are supporting you they really should know about this.
2. what happened to "HUGE" founds?
3. Why do you think your (or 110) is invisible to bankruptcy? MS a HUGE ASS company just laid off people BECAUSE THEY ARE LOSING MONEY... and yes THEY CAN GO BANKRUPT TOO!!! so why cant 110?

Quote
You expect your feature enhancement, service improvement or complaint to be heard, right!

And that's why 110mb's top priority is to constantly listen to members demands, and make them happen within 5-7 days. (Can take up to 15 depending complexity of programming or integration.)

You and I both know there's nothing more peeving then writing to a company and getting some total nonsense corporate response like "We can't do X during this time because Y. We, we, we, we...". What the hell! smiley
Have you heard any demands for FTP being reissued as "Free" yet? if not either the people who signed up dont need/use it or most likely they have moved on

So chances are the only people you can really listen too are the oldies here on the forum. as  i believe every day with out FTP free is making 110 loose customers.

i looked at the forums registration #s and i doubt you got 900+ users signing up today... and if you did how many actually stay/ed? also i did not remove the ones that will be deleted for rule reasons...

on a final note B16 approx registrations were about this or more a month... but since you did not start till late to register users for the forum as well i only have nov decs # to base upon. and based upon the numbers per day its higher but also remember B16 was closed the near end of jan so that explains the increase this month and how many people wanting on B16 expecting to get the stats as B16 offers? thats how many people you just let down plus if you get a average of 1 404 page per person signing up at least once that leads to a 5% siging up rate you do the math and thats how much lost income/registers you have lost and possible upgrades. as why pay for something when you were expecting to get it free any how?\

And as tawg states you really should remove the affiliate images if your going to keep this and change them. and what about all the sites still with the old images? what about those visitors what about the people affiliating them to 110? your making every one who has linked to you with the banner or the advert of 5GB space and 300GB bandwidth as lairs and deceivers when in reality you never clearly thought it threw (quite apparent) and so your the true deceiver so how i see it every one clicking and joining threw the affiliate program till fixed should get the stats as promised and if not its false advertising.

How false advertising?
Easy this is how:
You never sent out emails to notify ANY one about the change so they (if they are) can change their affiliate info and if they wish to continue.
You still have the old banners in the affiliate section of the CP which is misleading
Your .info site still has the old banner up

and im guessing since you did make the initial change with out haste or notice or all the changes needed i prob could right now call up B16/B17 provider and get them disconnected due to you getting hits and registrations with possible fraudulent and misleading advertising (or better yet just let the government do it Duh << if the gov they might just shut down every thing angry so just in case some twit comes along and reads this every one back up your stuff...)

what do you get for this? possible criminal offenses bla bla bla im sure you know the deal... but im nice im not going to report it (yet) and as long as you have even a trace of the advertising on your site (*cough affiliates*) it still can be classified as false advertising...

Note: removal of the pics in the topic and display on the site aint enough... the pics must be either removed or changed names so it nulls out all people hot linking them... and have the decency to send out emails to all users before B17 notifying the change so that way you dont loose more people then you already have...

and since you have 2 boxes in Canada and 3 in the USA you must follow the laws here too Cheesy

hmmm thats allot to read sorry Sad

and np about my post or is that sarcasm Duh

hmmm if he locks this topic it aint going to stop people from complaining and banning us... well if he does then i guess its time for us to move on and all support with 110 will be lost Cheesy besides thanks to this change 2+hosts have been mentioned in this topic Duh which makes this thread a violation of the forum rules Cheesy

Oh another thing if he does ban us id check if hes done any thing about the false advertising and if not automatic complain to the server ppl in Quebec Cheesy and Burst Wink
