ok is it bout time some one took on ebay properly ?  ebid do a carp job of it .........

following on from a chat on another forum (lots of people are getting conned on ebay lately)

how about an auction site that is more secure than ebay but easier to use and more choices ......

a few people in the other forum have expressed interest in helping but not many have knowledge of web design ......

i can do the design and css and some of the php coding (but its a mammoth task for 1 person)

people would be given certain roles....... there is no payment for this but you would have FREE listings on the site for life

the idea is not to be based on making money but on making a safe enviroment for users (sellers and buyers)

any money made on the site would be put aside & spent on the site or given to a charity etc ......  just ideas so far ....

from talking on the other forum, there is enough people who would beta test the site when needed ......

so how about it ......... a fun slightly complicated web site but even if site doesn't go live then could possibly sell the site to someone ............

I don't think this is a good idea. What's to stop users from sending empty boxes? How can you really expect to be better than ebay? The idea's good, but the creation and support of a website like that isn't possible with a small handful of people.

as every one above said it would take tons of resources and since you would already have a strong competitor who you want to beat it would possibly take you years and possibly millions of dollars as ebay has contracts for some products (take a look at some Mattel products next time your at wal-mart hotwheels mostly )

You have much to learn about online commerce and trading / selling.

Lawyers - If you get sued, you are going to be in a big hole, and possibly jailed.

You also need to have loads of cash to buy a deticated server, to pay your scripters (nobody does a big project like that for free), and so on.

Ebay is the web standard, you cannot beat it. Just like you cannot beat Google.

Yep that's a good idea. And far more realistic. Users place their texts, and you earn using Adsense. Nothing too complicated.
