new pc on the drawing board ^^

Budgeted at £8,000 for tower

Tyan M4881 CPU expansion board for AMD opterons (supports 8 quadcore cpus)

8 X AMD opteron quadcore 2.40 ghz (will be overclocked to 4.5 ghz)  Total speed in theory 144 ghz
64 GB duel channel DDR3 1ghz mem
4 X WD raptor 15K 146 gb drives
TRI SLI nvidia 8800 ULTRA 768 mb (going to Oc them)

3X 30" samsung LCD screens  (resolution will be 7680 x 1600)

==edit== money left over will be spent on case mods ^^

Wow.

What do you do with all that power?

thats what i would like to know... also why not wait till Intel brings out their 8 core instead of going with AMD?

I do 3D modeling which requires quite alot of CPU for physics e.t.c.    + rendering 3D with 32000 x 32000 96 DPI textures  +  minimum of 3,000,000,000 polygon count is quite intense on resources.

==Edit== Answer your question? ^^

ummm my guess is get a very powerful motherboard, i am a gamer so i wont know what you would need in a motherboard but if you visit say a computer place that sells asus motherboards (you dont necessarily need to go with asus but usually they will know something.) then get max RAM for it along side with the best CPU if possible i would wait till a 8 core comes out or a good motherboard with dual quad core capabilities... it might be more power then you would ever need but you never know.
If i find a motherboard with a dual quad core capabilities ill edit here or post again/ PM you if you want. as well tell you when the 8 core from intel will be coming out approx....

so a list:
1 Kick butt motherboard with capabilities of either dual quad core or 8core processor(s)
Max RAM
At least 2 good video cards (for SLI or Crossfire) depending on which company you go with (correct me if im wrong on ATI)
And maybe a few other things no idea but i am sure youll know. but that is my best guess what you would need

Is this a suggestion for what i should get or what your getting?

if its a suggestion for me then why would i wait for 8core cpus when im going to have 8 quadcores in the system?

its going to have max ram (64 GB's)

and its going to have TRI SLI  (3 X nvidia 8800 ultras)

:S

Opps sorry mis read the motherboard part.... so yea ummm yea ultra sould be good and 3 right?

so tri SLI
64 gb ram
and enough CPUs to supply my entire family (single core) with a combined power of 144 ghz.... yea i would say your good...
but doesnt any one have a motherboards for intel with 8 cpu (quad core) compatibilities? if so i would go with intel and 8 quads.... but i cant find any. as the intels go up to 3.0 ghz (about 1k canadian tho....)
