Hey Guys, I had the same problem with my Church site on 110mb. A girl called me and I fixed the problem ASAP. But here's the thing. I do have .htaccess. It's in my root and works to take me to my own error page when I type a bad link. BUT, I also have a forum and if the permission settings accidentally get changed when a kid clicks to view our church forum it still goes to this porn site and not my error page. That's how I got into this mess in the first place. No bad links, just bad permission settings, and .htaccess isn't working for that. HELP! thanks.

Then purchase .htaccess or go to a paid host. There are few threads on this subject, and I keep seeing this response from you guys. You're leaving out an obvious third option: sign up with another company that offers free hosting. Seriously, this isn't the only company that offers free hosting with limitations. I only stumbled on 110MB from a site that listed 50 or so free hosting sites. There are tons of limitations I can deal with, but this ad is completely unacceptable. I'm not against adult sites, but something like this CANNOT be linked to the site I'm hosting. Consider my account closed. But what can we say other then that? I understand people don't like the current 404 but this is the only way 110MB gets money for what they offer. You get good free hosting with quite some features which aren't available on other free hosts. Second, we got a good community here which is always ready to help people with almsot any problem. We made many compromises to satisfy the users but there is a limit. As said before, you can make sure you never see that 404 * Triple check all your links, images ect. if they are correct and working * Optional: Get .htaccess and set your own 404 But ofcourse, there is a moment that we can't satisfy a user. We understand that you might leave 110MB due to this ad but then please do it silently. What is the use to rand on a free service? A bit appreciation is welcome too.

Indeed, that is something that needs to be posted in the tech department. Don't worry, that issue will be resolved.

i support 110mb.com .. I'm obligated to them for giving me free 5 gb space and a wonderful 99% uptime.
I have purchased all of their service except this one so will purchase this one as well
vibs I need some guidance to how to create my custom 404 page. I'm a new user i.e basically a .NET based developer.
For the moment I need NOT to go in the details of .htaaccess .. What I really request my helper to do following things for me
1) Give me some link or reference telling me how to create a custom 404 page. 2) Telling me how to link my custom 404 page on my 110mb domain such that if there is some user who accidentally clicks on a wrong/broken link then he/she doesn't see the default error page specified by 110mb
Please help me out. Thanks ....
I'll purchase the 404 upgrade by today.

Basic 404: * Create a simple html page which tells the user it has entered a faulty URL (the actual 404 page). Name it 404.html or error.html (anythign you like) * Create a .htaccess file (windows text editor) and copy/past the following in it: <Files .htaccess> order allow, deny deny from all </Files>
ErrorDocument 404 /404.html
Replace 404.html with the name you have given the 404 page. * Upload the .htaccess file to your accounts root and you are good to go

I only stumbled upon the nwwl.com link by accident, when checking the network screen in Firebug.
What I can't figure out, after running the W3C Link Checker on the same page, is why it was showing a hit to enter.nwwl.com in the network traffic in Firebug. No page displayed, and W3C shows ZERO broken links on the page. So why the hit? Does this amount to inaccurate hit stats if a page with no 404 is hitting the 404 advertiser in the background? The HTML response screen showed the code for the full nwwl landing page, so it WOULD show as a hit from a 110mb site on their server logs.
Not complaining about the redirects, and know it's how 110mb makes their coin to offer the free stuff. That's cool. What concerns me is seeing that 404 hit showing in the background on a page that had zero dead links. I'm trying to figure out if I should drop my current paid hosting for paid 110mb hosting, and this early discovery doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. Of course, that only seems to be happening one one page with a lightbox javascript, and no others. So maybe it's something in the javascript causing it, even though the script is working as expected. Weird.
I think the idea of overlaying a small notice that it's a 404 error bringing up the page vs. a domain hi-jacking is a good idea. Or even using frames with a notice across the top, and then the full ad page below. That way you still get the ad page in there without worrying about people escaping it before it's displayed and you get paid for the hit, no? Should take no time at all to code that solution. But that said, it's your sandbox, and we all agreed to play by your rules to be here. Keep up the good work you're doing.

Yes, this is a free service. I understand that. As the saying goes, "No good deed is ever unpunished," which is to say you get what you pay for (or don't). Just today I stumbled upon this page using Dreamweaver, and found it depressing that (1) I specifically set it up to go to my website, and (2) 110mb is being supported by porn artists. I have no problem with that, except the fact when they deliberately redirect me to the 404 page which then redirects me to a sponsor. I know that you forum admins don't give a damn about your services because you're probably getting your monthly paycheck, but seriously, at least try to talk to your supervisors about who exactly is funding the company you represent.
Before I let anyone refute what I just said by saying, "well, buy a domain name..." let me tell you all that some people don't want to buy a domain name, just yet. Either that or they don't have the money to do so. You forum admins had better come up with better excuses for your company doing what it does, for it is completely unacceptable. I rest my case for now...anyone with me?

The internet is for adults, the fact that children use it is incidental. It's the parent's job to make sure their kids aren't looking at stuff they would find indecent. Parents can do this with all sorts of free and paid tools available to them, if a parent doesn't have a time to do this - then it's their own fault - because the onus is on them to shield their kids, not 110mb nor anyone else for that matter.
Anyways the content on those pages is not pornographic - it is sexual in nature, but there is no nudity on the entrance page, and thus it's not all that bad or alarming.
I don't like to use foul language around people I don't know, especially on the Internet. But I think the guy I am quoting is full of crap. The Internet is for EVERYONE to use; not just adults. Just take a peek inside any modern suburban-to-urban school district and you'll find students using the Internet. Sir, get with the times, 'cause they're a-changing, and quickly.

Dude, if it's THAT reprehensible to you (a redirect that is far LESS racy than your average music video or teen drama on TV these days), find a new free host. Nobody is FORCING YOU to use this service.
Never ceases to amaze me what ingratitude you'll see for something that someone else is providing for FREE.

What I basically think that I'm a true support of the 110mb concept and therefore will support them because everyone needs money to survive. Infact I have ACTIVATED almost each and every of their upgrades on my account and I activated them because of their prompt technical support and such a nice helpful community and of course a great server up time. Now regarding this 404 redirect ISSUE .. I guess that many are upset because they were not prepared or expected such redirection. I don't think that there is any WRONG in the policy of leasing 404 page to some company but what might be not justified is NOT informing members about this change. As NOT all members are actively coming to forum for seeing the updates I guess that such crucial updates or news which affects a user account can be emailed respectively on that user's email(s) before leasing any such page so that incase there is any leasing in future then either those people are prepare for it or buy the .htaccess. U know its our human nature i.e when we go to some places like disco/movie/shopping mall then 7$ means NOTHING to us but when we try to see 7$ from the point of view of internet payment then SUDDENLY it becomes a big amount !!!!!!! I sincerely believe that such restrictions are required so that this site isn't overloaded with over MILLION users creating/engaging the website's domain name without any solid reasons. By setting some really minimal payments 110mb has tried to only go for the users, who are genuine or looking for a long term reliability and good up time server.
