i would like to be able to access my databases from a program on my computer without using php because it takes ages.

why is it you can only access them using 'localhost'

Because else there would be numerous of connections with the database server which will slow down the server. And of course, it's way saver to only have it local.

This is something that won't be changed.

I could also picture that with remote connections, some people would buy it to use on other hosts because it may be cheaper at 110mb than to buy at their host, or they may get more databases then the other host their using. Which is not good for 110mb.

just to say i have searched high and low for a host that does all you do but also does remote access, but have found none i feel are worth the risk. with you i know my website is in safe hands and i am willing to pay for this feature and im sure many other people would be.

I do not know what program you are using, but I feel any remote connection will be slower than accessing db server with "local" php scripts.

maybe but to actually execute the php script it takes much longer for me compared to connecting to the database directly ONCE then sending mysql queries directly without having to reconnect al the time.

As Diemux said, remote access will not be enabled in near future. It opens up security and abuse issues.
