Diemux,

This is really getting strange.

It was down for the better part of a week, last week, and then it was back up.

Did we like put it back together with rubberbands? Or what?

AnyIdea WHAT is happening!?

The HDD is full, system admins cleaned it up but somehow it got full again. Could be due to abusers. System admins will fix it asap.

No mention of any fault with Box 13 up top.

Up till now I've kept quiet, on the basis that I shouldn't complain about anything that someone chooses to make available for free but...

Box 13 really has not come anything close to living up to the reliability expectations billed by 110mb.

I could live with the fact that I wasn't able to properly edit pages within 110mb's File Manager, blaming an incompatibility with my Serif software, but I just deleted my index page so I could load an updated version and, although it managed to take the old page down it won't put the new one up, so my website is closed for the foreseeable future.

This project has been abandoned due to lack of member participation

@ frainer99, regunirun, kinross814, anybody ! :

I'm trying to build a Disk Space Monitor that will help us forecast problems like this.

You can help by hosting this simple file somewhere on your site, then PM me a link to it..

dsa.php
Quote
<?php echo "¦" . $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'] . "¦" . disk_total_space("./") . "¦" . disk_free_space("./") . "¦"; ?>

A cron job will then check the disk space every 6 hours.

Your anonymity is guaranteed, and every volunteer get a link to the progress page.

Easy how-to..

Copy that entire line and paste it into your favourite non-formatting editor. Notepad is ideal.

Save the file as dsa.php

If it saves as dsa.php.txt - rename it.

Upload the file to any directory you like (when you can, obviously).

Try it yourself, eg..  http://username.110mb.com/dsa.php
You'll see something like this in your browser..

¦64.191.15.150¦492256313344¦304705445888¦

.. and that's the data that I'll accumulate to determine disk space availability.

The disks are divided/grouped by the first letter of your subdomain name, so we need lots of volunteers to cover A-Z on all Boxes.

You will need to tell me how to host that - as a complete novice, I don't know if I should save that line as a Word file or what!

At the moment I can't actually put anything in my website and - with no index page - the whole thing is dead.

If it helps, I'm only using 4.4 of 5000mb.

1. Open Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad).
2. Paste that code.
3. Save it as dsa.php.
4. Upload it to your site.

It's to check the space of the hard disk your site is on. It doesn't matter your usage.

OK, I've done that.  Now we just need to wait till I can actually upload anything to see if it will work or not.

Only box 14 and 15. But that's just because they are newer. You won't find more reliable without going paid.

At this point, it doesn't matter. I've wasted 20-25$ last week on google ads driving traffic to my site when its down. And even though i paid for SQL access here, when its down, it doesn't work. Neither does sendmail. So all those customers can't contact me, and, if they place an order, i wont know, cause it wont get stored in the DB, and i wont get an email about the order.

oh well

So I've managed to upload the php file but it shows as 0b and when I open by the Edit button there is nothing there - I've checked the Notepad file on my PC and it does have the text, but the contents seem to vanish while being uploaded.

I still can't upload the new Index file which is only 19kb.

I'm beginning to think it's doing this on purpose to annoy me - a quick easy update is taking too much time and I have a real job that I should be doing!!

"The HDD is full, system admins cleaned it up but somehow it got full again. Could be due to abusers. "

Sure, anybody here ever heard about monitoring diskspace? Abusers, how can they abuse with all this promised diskspace that is available for them? I quote " 5 GB Space - FREE". My whole site is about 500kb in diskspace
"You won't find more reliable without going paid."

Well i did pay, like a lot of people here and not like some of the admins here who seem to get their site for free in return for sweetmouthing this provider. And after three months full of downtime, i can only say one thing, it was a total waste of money.

May I quote from the website, Reason 2 why people should definitely choose 110mb over others

"Your website pages will load at blistering fast speeds. And we also CHALLANGE you to put your page on a downtime tracking service. And by end of the month we guarantee you, you'll see a uptime of over 99.8% or more."

Well, i wonder who would be "challanging" such a true statement. Please people, look yourself straight in the eyes and remove these lines from your website.

I hope for all the people on box13 that they will consider buying an extra harddisk that is big enough to at least keep the websites running for a week. My support to all of you.

the one time in a few weeks I decided to change my page background, we run into upload problems. Got my file uploaded but it took the better part of a minute (13k was the file size)

I do in fact have a more reliable FREE host for my other site, so there are definitely other host around. 110mb just has more to offer in other areas.
