Aii guys, this is my first post in this section. http://www.inportb.uni.cc/wordmap/http://inportb.110mb.com/wordmap/If you are willing, please play with this a bit and tell me how it goes. The instructions are on the website. ##EDIT## I added color-coded parts of speech, and a homepage. The graph engine was updated as well.

Neat - I've only ever seen that concept once before, some years back and was quite impressed at the time.
Well done!

I once had a hard drive clunk-clicking Strange noises, weird sounds and tick-ticking I thought I would wait And procrastinate... Thank you! The examples I was referring to were Visual Thesaurus (a commercial service that uses Java), and the free Javascript alternative whose libraries I used. I thought VT was interesting, but wanted to see if it could be done with only Javascript. A web search resulted in the discovery of the second application. It uses AJAX, which I thought unnecessarily slowed down the works. And the particular flavor of AJAX used did not work at all in Konqueror. So I brewed this version.

Thank you! I suppose you haven't tried a word that's particularly loaded with definitions... Searching set will give you an explosively packed graph that bounces around eternally. I suppose I'll have to fix that sometime soon =]
Anyway. I am about to link another [more recent] toy in another topic. Stay tuned! xD

Epic ~3-year bump! I was inspired to revive this toy. I completely rewrote the physics and rebased the graphics on Raphael. It isn't as smooth, but it's a first step http://inportb.com/wordmap/?testhttp://inportb.com/wordmap/Some of the leaf nodes may appear repetitive, but each branch is actually a slightly different sense of the word. The idea is to have tooltips show these meanings. Oh yeah, and you could drag/bounce stuff around. The next step is to implement the Runge-Kutta method of solving ODE's...

The map is cool, but I'm more interested in what service your using to get the JSON array of the desired word. You wouldn't mind sharing the resource for that?

Thanks inportb,
PS: The graph seems to be very slow, and unresponsive. Even on a QuadCore system, it really is clunky.

Since this is really a tech demo, I haven't bothered to test it in antique browsers... but I'd imagine that either (1) it's using an interface that was developed later or (2) it's got a bug that the browsers are less lenient about. Or both. Thanks for pointing it out.

Try the ?test URL. I can get that to load in Firefox, but Chrome is certainly quicker.
