Fifteen Ways to Boost Your Web Site Traffic

Are you looking for ways to boost the traffic to your web site? Here are fifteen suggestions for things that you can do without resorting to professional help or spending a single cent.

Tune up your web site to boost traffic from search engines.

Most of the first time traffic to your web site will come to you through search engines. Experts claim that people seldom look beyond the first page or two of search engine results to find what they're looking for, so it makes sense to do everything possible to boost your standings in the search engine rankings and get listed on the front page. Here are five tips from experts to help you increase your web site's visibility to search engines.

1. Fill in your META description and keywords in the HEAD information on EVERY SINGLE PAGE on your web site.

2. Make your keywords specific. Narrow your field of focus, in other words. If you sell fishing lures, use 'fishing lure' instead of 'fishing'. The traffic you attract will be looking for fishing lures, not great places to fish. Added bonus: since the results returned will be smaller, you stand a much better chance of appearing near the top of the list.

3. Use the ALT field in your IMG tags to describe your pictures - with keywords. Search engine spiders can't see your pictures, but they will read the descriptions.

4. Stay away from sleazy tricks like white on white text to load your page with keyword terms. Search engine algorithms are increasingly sophisticated, and tactics like that can get you banned from a search service.

5. Update your site with fresh content regularly, especially for the first weeks after submitting to a search engine. Search engine spiders will return more often and list you higher if your content changes frequently.

Publicize your web site to boost traffic through other markets.

You don't want to rely exclusively on search engine traffic, though. Some of these tactics serve double-duty - they'll publicize your web site AND increase your visibility to search engines.

6. Exchange links with other web masters, but be selective. Search engine ranking is affected by the number of links to your site, but the newer algorithms take into account the similarity of content. If another site that carries similar content to yours is linked to your site, the search engine will rank your web site higher.

7. Use your URL on everything. Put it on your business letterhead, your business card and make sure that it appears in any print ads or brochures that you send out.

8. Add your URL to your email and BB signatures so that every piece of mail or forum discussion post you make will carry it.

9. Send out regular updates and web digests from your web site to customers, and invite them to come back.

10. Add your web site to free directories that carry listings for your product.

Boost traffic to your web site by being a good net citizen.

There are some excellent ways to increase your visibility by becoming known as an expert on a subject, or just as a helpful professional. Extend that to the real world as well to increase your web site's visibility in your town.

11. Post on forum and discussion boards about your business, or about web issues.

12. Make sure that the content on your web site is helpful and informative for your visitors.

13. Syndicate your web content via RSS feeds so that other web masters can link to it and publicize your web site.

14. Write short, informative articles for other websites for free - and a link to your web site from your article. It's a good way to establish yourself as a well-known expert and professional in your field.

15. Extend your good citizenship. Launch a campaign to donate part of your profits to charity and publicize it. Sponsoring a local charity is great publicy for you, and good business for them.

You can, but those are mostly worthles.
In 99.99% of the link-farm cases, google and many other search engines just ignore them.

That seems like good advice, pity I didn't take it.  I'm in the process of fixing it up now. :-P

They aren't mostly link farms. You simply have to find good ones. Some of those sites have a PR7 rank. Just be choosy to whom You link. There are very many Webmaster forums out there. In all of them You can find really good directories and link exchange sites. Some are paid. Usually they don't cost too much. But that's why You do the footwork.

My site has vanished from Google, I can't find it anymore. Even not when exactly typing in its name.

My last major edit was one week ago. I submitted it for the first time about a month ago. It always stood there and now it is gone. I resubmitted it today.

Denizz

it is possible that google just reindexed your page or another googlebot take care of indexing them - they shud appear.

Or your page has ben considered to have dubled content with another site for example you have another almost similar page.

Or was considered as linkfarm (i do not know how exactly say it in english) becouse redirect to pages with bad content and many more things cud happend.

Just wait week two and do not panic.
