i want to check my new 1TB before i do anything to it like a S.M.A.R.T scan etc how would i go by doing that?

with out formatting...

You could try checking the manufacturer's site for diagnostic tools.

If you're running *buntu Karmic, Palimpsest has a nifty disk test feature that includes S.M.A.R.T querying.

O.o i was trying to find out where the hell i could install it... but all i found was how to install in 9.04... till i checked synaptic and when the drive manager came up undecided

well the dos test completed and got a pass... sadly their is something wrong with my floppy drive... its not writing or reading... and i dont have the 10 bucks needed to get a new one... oh well Duh

hmm that pallimpsest has been causing a lot of heartache in karmic, it's been reading false positives on hard disk failures
