We can't provide these extensions to free members because few bad dudes will treat 110mb as a file host (against our TOS.)

htpasswd doesnt have to be outside the www dir, all tho it's the best. but here is what andre wrote about htaccess files.

So I guess that means you can no longer password protect directories then. Balls.

Why not ? just contact support to have the information added to your htaccess file.
And place your .htpasswd file in your root or another folder.

lot's of cms come with premade .htacces for security...

but maybe it's something they are still working on. Lots of file- extensions are still not allowed...

That won't be on by default. Because that would over-rule PHP's ability to limit who get's sendmail/safe mode off/etc...

To get cgi/perl support, proof of Id is needed.

before the change of the system i had Drupal installed on my site, now on the new system it does not let me upload Drupal to the webspace anymore it says extensions .module and .theme not allowed, is it possible you could add those ? thx

also i'm not sure i think it requries .htaccess too but if it works without that then not a problem.

.mgc and .magic - for MIME magic files. I need it so that I can do verification on uploaded files to prevent viruses from ending up on your server :wink: plus I need .ttf for fonts, needed for captcha stuff. That will keep spammers off your server :wink:

Also can you install the PHP fileinfo extension? all you have to do is open a root console and do "pecl install fileinfo" :-D

@Charlesc83, .pl can't be enabled due to the fact perl is only for people that can show valid id (http://www.110mb.com/support/). This is because perl overrules the ability of PHP to give members permissions around sendmail/fsocketopen() ect.

after all files only can be browsed or downloaded , or server side interpreted depending on server config

 .. so better try to disable functions like system_exec() or chmod() instead of file types

  ... for exapmle if you do not declare c:/windows/system32/cmd.exe as interpreter to *.bat and *.cmd , and i click grabServerControl.bat or changeAdminPermissions.cmd , nothing happens just view/download the files :P

Andre, it looks as if a LOT of people need .htaccess files, including myself. The AllowOverride directive in httpd.conf will allow you to restrict what commands can be used inside of .htaccess files. After some googling I found that mod_rewrite will be enabled if you specify "AllowOverride Options", and that will prevent users from customizing the 404 pages.

It may be that you don't really need the .htaccess files anyway; have a look inside them and see if there is anything that is really needed.

It's used for the smf backup files when you install/remove a mod.

I'll have to agree that from a purely technical perspective, there's nothing inherently insecure with allowing .htaccess files, as long as they are properly restricted, ie. the needed overrides as forbidden.

There's also no reason to restrict filetypes, or as least to whitelist them. If you want to prevent certain files, why not just blacklisting those and allowing everything else?

About htaccess i have an idea who want to upload his htaccess must pm admin  the file and also the usernam and the directory wher he wants to upload to so the admin can see that htaccess and decide what he will do, admin can have 14 day max to decide  or dependent on how many user want to upload that file, me i dont need to upload it now but surly i will need it after to install more addon in my vbulletin board.

nuke-evo users need it because the forum base also uses htaccess.

my site (once i upload it) will be targeted at Mac users, so I find it quite annoying that I can't upload *.dmg files (os x archive/disk image format). Please add DMG to the allowed list!

Before you had changed from cpanel to this new layered panel I was able to run my shopping cart with out a hitch. Now we seem to be having some troubles with file support. My shopping cart requires file extensions of the following .xsd , .wsdl , .pem , .crt , pl and one file inside another file requires .htaccess. IPS files (International Patching System Files) are something common that I use to my webpage, since they only look at the changes between the two files they patch to create a new file, they are small and useful for me as I am on Dial-up.

This VERY,VERY important for my site to have these interactive puzzles!! I understand there are certain precautions that have to be taken today, However, there is no phone support and each time I post I wait a couple of days to get a reply which may or may not help or it directs me to another thread - back and forth and back and forth until you finally get it resolved just to ask your "second" question, when you may have 5 or 6 questions that could of easily been answered in a 10 minute converstation.
AND this should'nt be a forum just for "know-it-alls" I DON'T know it all. In Fact, I know very littel and am attempting learn a little at a time, yet I don't want that to cause me to have to wait and keep posting and keep waiting for 6 months to a year to get my site UP AND RUNNING!!

PLEASE HELP SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW AS MUCH!!

In addition I have to go make copies of my driver's license and water bill and have them faxed to my email as an image so I can upload them to a server and wait for someone to look at them and reply back so that I can have rights to have PHP turned on so my "contact us" form will work. This is a just a big headache. Not everyone has a scanner you know. I have a big family and work a lot. I can't run all over town to have these things done.Thanks a bunch!

otherwise.. use other means of alternative methods to have your documents scanned.. eg. friend's scanner, public scanner services, or even digital camera (but be sure your name/images are visible)

Perl is nowadays becoming the heart of webdesigning. I would suggest that perl should be allowed in 110mb too if possible so as to cope up with other webhosts in this competitive market. Moreover, email forwarding is a feature although not available now should be allowed in the future as many webhosts are providing them. These are a few suggestions regarding the file types which are not allowed.

Actually, there's another I forgot to add: ASY, which is used in LTspice. And if these go through, there's a bunch more extensions needed for CAD programs, such as DXF and all the rest for AutoCad and clones. Then we have files for MathCad, SciLab, Octave, etc. And don't forget the database programs, paint programs, accounting, music, astronomy, Finite Element Analysis, avionics, and so on. There are plenty of Mac users that need strange file extensions, and many other fields I have not mentioned.

This is the first web host that had any restrictions on file extensions. There is little chance those three letters could have any security implications - Microsoft is famous for executing any file that can be run, no matter what the extension. "When in doubt, run it" is their motto:)

So I'd vote for removing the restrictions entirely. As already mentioned, no other web host I've seen has them, and they all seem to be running just fine!

I have looked at some of the other web pages on here and I'm afraid that mine pales to insignificence against them. I just use mine to share my photos and news with friends and family.
 I don't like to ask for more after all that I have got from 110mb.com, in them agreeing to host my pages, but I use Jalbum V7.1 to build my image galleries. When it makes the albums it puts a file in with a "jap" extension. I don't know what it does but I cant transfer it to the page. Could I please have it added to the allowed file extensions? The pages do load without it, but it must do something.

humm... There's no such thing as "just a file" just because windows won't tell you, it doesn't mean it hasn't got a extension.

It has, and you can make windows show it to you, but... Well, thats for me to know and for you to look up...

Ok... I'm in a generous mood, so i'll tell you a quick and dirty way to see the extension...
(Assuming you use Windows XP)
Right click the file, click properties, then on the properties window it tells you the default program to open the file (if there is one), or its says Something Like "Unknown Aplication".
Right next to taht it has a "Alter/change/whatever" button.
Click it.

Right on top of the newly open window, it should tell you the file name and its extension.

There is such a thing as 'just a file' with no extension.

If windows is hiding extentions just goto view->options (in explorer) and deselect 'Hide file extensions for known file types'

there are zillions of files that are other way round, ie. those files have a file name but no extension.

i highly doubt those will be allowed. as .exe files could easily be viruses or other such malware and could possibly ruin all the servers. im not saying they are, BUT we dont know you and have nothing to base our trust on with you.

you could always get a free file host...and store those files on there? link to them if you really needed them on your site.

What do you mean with a 'free file host'? I have a site created (korgwizard.110mb.com) but those are only htm pages. However, in a DotNet application it is possibly to automatically update a program from internet but then VisualStudio (the environment to program in) wants to put some programs on ftp of the kind I described above. Is something like korgwizard.110mb.com a free host or not? And if not, how can I get one?

what exactly does your script do..? i have visual studio (MS Visual Studio .Net 2003) as well, and i have the option to publish my programs to the internet. but i dont. i have no need to. can you just save them to your computer?

Those type is files generated by One-Click deployment feature of Visual Studio 2005. After you compile your program. One-Click will create those files. You only need up them to host so people can come and install it. When you make new version, just upload file again and your program runing on users machine will auto update to the lastest version.

Yes you are right, it is called One-Click. However I still do not understand how to upload those files. Should I do it manually each time? I was hoping it could be done with the ftp settings in the Publish tab of Visual Studio. Actually it works until it tries to copy files (than I get the error that wrong file types are attempted to be copied). It created a directory tough.

I also set all permissions (at least I assume I did).

My program can read and show information of files (so called PCG) files for music synthesizers from Korg (that's a brand of synthesizers). The functionality of the program is independent of the usage of the file types, because:

It's made in VisualStudio DotNet (C#) and it has a builtin function to automatically publish programs on internet, however it uses some standard files (with the file types I mentioned above). The benefit from this is that if the program is installed this way, it can automatically check for a new version and update itself. And the only thing I have to do is press the Publish button in VisualStudio each time I improve the application.

i dont think that is going to work out. to make it so you could publish your .exe (you need this online as well as your .pcg files correct?) then the admin would have to make server wide changes to allow you to upload .exe files. and then they would have to trust you not to put any harmful .exe's up.

.ppt is added, for now you can use that instead of .pps. since .ppt is editable, may make it easier for changes later on? .pps is non editable (you prolly know that if your using it thought)

Ehm, I noticed that there was about triple that amount of files left, and I couldn't help thinking maybe you're not interested in adding all of those extensions for just one additional application. I don't whether it's a lot of work to add extensions or if it's a piece of pie, so I'll just go ahead and wait and see whether or not this is a realistic request at all.

I have no idea why they had to make a unique filetype for each one of those files, but I guess there's some slightly good reason out there :(

You can't host a cs strike server in a webhosting.

thats what i found at valve:

Maller asked me to put my requests (.inc, .class and .dll) into this request thread but i have looked at all the allowed file extensions and i see that .inc, .class and .dll are already allowed. But when i upload my pre-made files i open 'em and have a look at the source and there's nothing there! I dont know what to do can anyone help me? 

If you are opening them with the editor in File Manager, it may not understand the file type and not render them as you might expect.

That editor has some peculiar behaviour which means it is better to avoid it  :-)

I really find it strange that .rar is not allowed.

.rar is not available to decompress. so they would basically be allowing you to put your files into archives so you can store them here. making it a file host. which is against the TOS. i think only .zip can be decompressed in the file manager. and the .tar/.gz/.tar.gz/etc ... those files can be done through SMF, for mod's and such. so those are understandable. i dunno if .rar is available in SMF or not. (first example i could think of?)

I use wordpress blogging platform for my website. Wordpress functionality can be extended by activating plugins.

So yesterday i tried to install one of such wordpress plugin named "Feedburner_Feedsmith_Plugin_2.2"

Feedsmith plugin is used to redirect all traffic from my default RSS Feed to enhanced FeedBurner Feed.

But while uploading this plugin server rejected one of its file with .DS_Store extension.

I don't know what this extension is used for ?

But if it is enabled it would help me perform and enhance my wordpress better.

Since many wordpress plugins have files with .DS_STORE extension.

Therefore it would be better if files with .DS_STORE extension are allowed.

I installed the webanalyse script, but there is a problem because it creates files with the ".dlog" extension, and as it seems it is not allowed and the script can not function.

Do you think it is possible for you to allow that type of extension so that webanalyse could work?

Allow and enable *.npk files, thanks! It allows heavily compressed web content to be used.
The format also has support for good encryption and is heavily optimized for fast loading of the compressed and/or encrypted web content. The format i am speaking of is not a documented one, it is a fairly unknown format. Not something google will find for the average user...

I could go on and describe the format here but I would venture off the topic then, so I'll make it short.
The header of the file is 'FNPK' (4 bytes), followed by version number [0-65535] (2 bytes).
The format has two ways of packing the data:
1. Compressed Only.
2. Compressed and Encrypted.
The data that comes after the header are the actual compressed data, along with a few describing variables. 'data' meaning 'web content' here. It (the content) can be exctracted using flash, php, c, or any langugage thats capable of dealing with files.
The format is not public. But I can always create a free .dll library for it, if that's necessary.

can we have .example enabled? Some scripts use .example as their extensions to show that they are example files, but since this extension isn't enabled, a lot of people are confused, since that certain file hasn't been uploaded.  :-(

Why don't you extract the files??? tar.bz2 is a compression method as far as I know.

I think that he thinks that he can uncompress that type of file on the server but you cant.

Could you enable .sitx?  I noticed that .sit (stuffit) is allowed, but not .sitx (StuffitX), which offers better compression.

Could you enable the lha file extension? Is a compression program mostly used in the Amiga computer, I can upload the files as a zip archive in the meanwhile, but it will be nicer for my visitors if they can download the archive in a more familiar format.

EyeOS is so named a "lite"-product. It does not require a SQL database, while it uses standard txt files to store data in. Therefore it would be great if that extension would be allowed.

or for streming like youtube we arent a pro site
all we need is to give our visitor the opportunity to have nice time while they navigat on our site

Mp3 isn't allowed.
And there is nothing stoping you from uploading it to a file host and then putting it into your page.
Also it will be streaming which will cause a huge slowdown on the server.

Go and host your huge files on a file host. 110mb isn't a place to dump your massive files.
If it absolutely has to be uploaded to 110mb change it into a zip and then upload.

I need to install Xaraya (XML ready PHP based CMS / blog / forum etc.) on my website. It uses suffixes which are not in the list. There is at least the .xt suffixe which is missing. Is it possible to add it? Thank you.

Uuh right, I think you can't make a NOD32 updatesite because then you would have to get INTO the source of NOD32 to assign <username>.110mb.com as your update server. Otherwise you could try to upload them as .zip and tell your "friends"  that when they download an update, that they have to change the extension on their computers to .ver and .nup. Besides, I doubt it's legal to do this anyway, it will violate the copyright of NOD32.

if it was in an external file and you linked to it correctly, you have to remove the <script> </script> tags. otherwise it should run fine
