used this guide for my 123-reg domain,
hope it works.
it has no TTL sectin there though :/

Is it working ok?  You can't select "1 hour" in 123reg but I assume this isn't necessary.  The guide says to create an A record called @ pointing to the ipaddress which I've done, but the guide also says to create a CNAME called www pointing to @ but this isn't possible, it says invalid entry.  Did you have this problem and if so, what did you do?  I've been able to create a CNAME called www pointing to the ipaddress, but is this right to have this or not?

Thanks

I may be doing this wrong but i dont think so,
I entered noreastah.110mb.com into the IP Check, it tells me an IP but says it is not pointing to a 110mb.com server. I then put in my godaddy domain name and came up with "Your domain williamfellis.net.110mb.com  is located on IP address 195.242.99.184 and is located on box5.110mb.com." is this the IP im supposed to use, i dont think so but im trying it now. I just wonder because this one says it is pointing to a box... whatever that means. When i go to williamfellis.net i get 404 error from google apps page, which makes me think its not forwarding. Any help would be great!

UPDATE:
I have just found that somehow when i go to williamfellis.net, "dreamtemplate.net" comes up, maybe the IP i added is forwarding to that then, I am going to change back to the IP from noreastah.110mb.com will check back in

@ noreastah

"Domain doctor" is NOT working for own/extra domains, so it's giving INcorrect result when you enter "williamfellis.net".
It works only for 110mb.com subdomains and it return correct IP of your account, however that tool still "does NOT know" about the existence of box 18 (after more than 2 months of the existence of box 18 already) and that's why it says that is not hosted on 110mb. But IP is correct.

As for your domain name - currently you do have 2 (two) A records on GoDaddy's nameservers:
williamfellis.net.   3600   IN   A   216.239.34.21
williamfellis.net.   3600   IN   A   174.142.79.83

You might want to delete the one of them.
UNLESS your intention is to host your domain name at two different hosts simultaneously, you can do this, with such 2 A records you and all your visitors will reach both IPs, both webhosts randomly.

PS. Be aware that 110mb handle "www" subdomain in unusual way and your current redirection from "non-www" to "with-www" is a reason of infinite loop of redirections. See other sticky topic in this section of the forum for more about.

hmmm, in my DNS settign in godaddy it only shows 1 A Host, and it is set up for @ and the IP for noreastah, could it be my nameserver settings in godaddy? should those be set for 110mb.com's nameservers? How can you tell i have more than one IP pointing for williamfellis.net? i have only had one showing in dns settings for quite some time now....

Thank you for the help. Any other thoughts?

I don't know what do you see at your GoDaddy's control panel, but when I query the GoDaddy's nameservers I have following results:

Code:
williamfellis.net. 86400 IN SOA ns45.domaincontrol.com. dns.jomax.net. 2010032802 28800 7200 604800 86400
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN A 174.142.79.83
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN NS ns45.domaincontrol.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN NS ns46.domaincontrol.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 10 aspmx.l.google.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 20 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 20 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 30 aspmx5.googlemail.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 30 aspmx3.googlemail.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 30 aspmx2.googlemail.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN MX 30 aspmx4.googlemail.com.
williamfellis.net. 3600 IN A 216.239.34.21
www.williamfellis.net. 3600 IN CNAME williamfellis.net.

At the GoDaddy's control panel "williamfellis.net" is abbreviated to @ and www.williamfellis.net is abbreviated to www for you. "MX" records are made for email purposes.

Considering that 216.239.34.21 is in the range of Google IPs - maybe this is the record made with your Google Apps settings?... I don't know. It not necessarily have to be beside your custom A/CNAME etc. records, maybe it's record made with one of the redirection etc. GoDaddy's services?...

First of all, I would like to say a big thanks for putting this [HOW TO] thread together.  The instructions are clear and easy to follow.

I have just purchased a domain at godaddy and completed the steps described in the first post of this thread.  That was about 8 hours ago, and I am still getting an error:  "Firefox can't find the server at thewildwoodproject.com"

So I have a couple of questions:
1.  Do I need to change my nameservers at godaddy?  (they are currently set to 'parked' and are set at NS33.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and NS34.DOMAINCONTROL.COM)
2.  I got an email from godaddy saying "We have received a request that the name servers be changed for the following domain name(s):  THEWILDWOODPROJECT.COM"  Do I  need to do anything at this point?

Thank you for your help guys!

@ emcee.scanner

Sorry for the delay.

At the time of this my post your DNS settings looks OK and your domain name is working fine - I can see the following:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC
  "-//IETF//DTD HTML LEVEL 1//EN">
<HTML>
  <HEAD>
    <TITLE>- - -</TITLE>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type"
          CONTENT="text/html; charset=utf-8">
  </HEAD>
  <BODY>
  </BODY>
</HTML>

You could always use nameservers, but for some reason hotlinking to images on nameservers doesn't work.

Thanks.  A couple of suggestions: 1) Step #2 needs to say: Go to GoDaddy.com 2) The two instances of "you should see something like this" are blank in my browser (FireFox).
Thanks again - you made this easy for a "newbie"

This was great!  My only suggestion is that since GoDaddy changed how the dashboard initially looks, you need to make sure you click to the right (after clicking on "Domains") on "View Domain Manager" in order to get to the DNS change screen.  Otherwise you'll just be able to see it in new the GoDaddy dashboard but not be able to change anything.  That was my experience anyway.

Great post.  Great help!

If anyone has a Godaddy account, perhaps they could post some updated screenshots?

It can take a while for DNS to update. If you had been visiting your website without WWW before, your computer is probably saving the IP for that domain. And then you tried WWW version and it retrieved new IP for that, since WWW is seen as a subdomain.

If in windows...

Start > Run > type cmd hit ENTER > type ipconfig /flushdns hit ENTER

Clear CACHE in your browser, restart browser, and try then. Wink

Thanks, that probably was it. But I completely forgot about that and it's already been fixed, just forgot to post here.

Thanks, I'll remember for next time.

No problem. Sometimes we all skip over a little thing.
