As far as I can tell, all 'free' accounts (except those on Box 15) have been 'enhanced' with some unauthorised javascript.. <script type="text/javascript"> var vglnk = { api_url: '//api.viglink.com/api', key: 'a7493e2870c43d31023d403e36d7cc81' };
(function(d, t) { var s = d.createElement(t); s.type = 'text/javascript'; s.async = true; s.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? vglnk.api_url : '//cdn.viglink.com/api') + '/vglnk.js'; var r = d.getElementsByTagName(t)[0]; r.parentNode.insertBefore(s, r); }(document, 'script')); </script> Anybody know why/want to comment?

We are currently running a short term test with Viglink to see if this could be an invisible alternative to placing footer links on user pages... Again, this has been placed on servers (excluding the premium server) by 110mb and is only a short term test. This should not affect any links that are currently on your site.
Thanks!

As a business practice I find that disturbing. No consultation with your customers prior to it's IMPOSITION. If you are going to INTERFER with our sites content we should have ample notice to decide whether we wish to participate. Not to mention potential risks as to OUR culpability for contributing something should it be litigious.
Not a good way to test something. You want to test something you can set up a test rig of dummy accounts, some clients and a program. Why are/should we be expected to be willing blind guinea pigs? Shame on you!
Box4 is down yet again btw.3 times in 24hrs.
(clayton, I notice the box12 thing we spoke of on skype never happened.)

This should not affect any links that are currently on your site. Pity it wasn't tested, then.I have a W3C link on one of my sites.. <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/check/referer" target="_blank" [remainder snipped] Simple stuff eh? When I click the link, the browser window proudly displays a 'popup blocked' banner, while the secondary window seizes at 'about:blank'.

Yeah but the box12 javascript thingy did menage to happen. Make some money off my crippled account. Very nice 110mb. I have no money to pay for hosting. My site provides free add less service for people out there. I would be thinking about taking my site to another (better) free host as now there are many. But there is really no way for me to notify my users of the new site location without writing permissions is there? This is just too much.

Temporary solution... Unless : - Your account is on the Box 4 HDD that contain accounts starting "I-P" (read-only file system since 26th September 2010)
- Your account is on the Box 12 HDD that contain accounts starting "K-T," and "4-7" (read-only file system since 14th November 2010)
- You use 110MB's sitebuilder (I can't support that thing)
Place <!-- after your </html> tag.
Sure, it breaks W3C compliance, but it should also screw that javascript.
Permanent solution: take your business to another host.

absolutely shocking.. How about... Instead of trying to make money out of sites that are screwed you actually work on the more important issues, such as fixing everything thats wrong with every box! I have a temp host, who were also affected by the explosion and they were fine after 3 days (box 15 still aint). Box4 has been dormant since september, and 12 is in the same river as box4. So stop your crappy javascript money making machine and fix whats needing done!

that is 13 servers, about 100 issues per server, and 2-3 admins total, the is 650 issues per admin to fix, and this is the testing for the footer link we are going to placing on every account, we mentioned this MONTHS ago. so warning was in place.

i dont really care about the footer links. I care about the fixing of the sevrers. Thus the message is lost. Why not forget about the footer and fix the biggest problems then? Box4, 12 and 15 are the most reported ones along with 5. 4 issues with 4 boxes. Thats 2 problems per admin.

My issues with this are:
-It breaks being compliant with W3C -It breaks a number of Java Script drop down menus (speculating that this also broke Wordpress admin panel like last time) -It is being forced upon members who have paid for upgrades.
Seems to me like this whole process is caught in a loop where issues can't get fixed until there are more admins (because to many issues per admin) but Jonathan doesn't want to hire more admins until there is income to support it.
My opinion: If you can afford the $250,000 price tag to buy 110mb you should certainly be able to afford hiring more staff. Otherwise, I suggest going back to business school to learn about the financial side of running a business.

Much as I hate to admit it RV you are 100% right. To me it would seem to make more sense to fix all of the current problems with the servers (including the new premium servers) before trying to add anything new.
Until you have a stable and happy set of members adding code without telling people will just generate more bad feeling instead of making people want to recommend 110MB to others. We went through this once before with the previous owner and all it did then was generate even more bad revues on sites he couldn't control. This led to the user base falling and revenues matching that bad vibe!
Please Admin get things sorted out for members first then look into ads to generate revenue. A happy member is a member who will help you by recommending you to others and word of mouth is still the most powerful form of marketing.
Graham.

Please fix this. It totally destroys XML data as the tag is inserted after the root element, rendering such pages totally unviewable. Example: http://www.tailsarchive.net/games/

@murreehills
The javascript that 110mb have added is also being added to your external javascript file(s) that work your dropdowns; looks like you might have to wait until management decide to remove it.
