Been tinkering around with a program that can visually display my hard drive.

Red is the 'shallowest' files, (Closes to "/"), blue is the deepest.

It's GrandPerspective, and I don't think so.

Here's pic of fragmentation... (Via iDefrag):

Blue is data, white is no data. Beginning of drive is the left. Not too fragmented, because its nearly FULL, LOL.

It WOULD be color coded for files, but apparently...

Files overlap? O_o I've never had any corrupted file issues so it's most likely nothing. I'm making space now (Got a DVD to import) and I guess de-fragging too tonight. ^_^

I have to share something with you. grin

This is my hard drive. grin
Drive C: (system) - 1.47GB free / of 18.67GB total

white - free space, blue - not fragmented files, red - fragmented files grin, green - 'untouchable' files (virtual memory etc. - should be in one place Wink )

Notes: For 5 years there was a Windows XP Home Edition. The hard drive was naver formatted, never de-fragmented. grin Even when my main board was burn and I was change it then I just delete some windows files (not all) and install Windows XP Pro on it (it's few months now). grin What was a surprise for me that some software in Program Files are still working even not re-installed (installed on old almost-deleted system). grin

I got a second drive - 80GB - it's a little bit more clean. Wink

There should be...

There's a similar program for Linux -- http://www.cuberick.com/2008/01/disk-usage-analyzer.html

O_o.

Upon further research, it turns out that Mac's HFS+ automatically defrags files under 20MB.

Piotr, thats some pretty impressive fragmenting. O_o It's about 1/5 the size of my disk though.. How old is your computer? Mine is approaching 5, I think.

Well right now I'm about to burn some DVD's and free up space.

Upon further research, it turns out that GNU/Linux's ext3fs does not fragment significantly until the disk is close to full Duh

Anyway. I just linked to the GNOME program Baobab. Well, KDE has an analog called Filelight. Stay tuned for an analysis =p

Ooh That one looks really good.

I have a scheduled defrag every Wednesday at 1:00 AM

I let my computer rest at night...  Duh

Hmm: For OsX users out there, here's some space saving tips:
 • Know all your music? Import it to iTunes then trash it! iTunes keeps it in ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/ !

Current free space: 11.7Gig 24.66 Gig!

:O! *Downloads* Its currently loading my drive...

(...)

Almost 6 years without a single de-fragmentation. grin
System installed 3 times, but without formatting - new one over the old one. grin

But I think that best de-fragmentation is move everything onto second drive and then back to the first. Am I wrong? (of course, you can not do this with all files while system is running, but with most.
I am preparing to this, but every time when I delete few GBs, then the new ones are coming. Wink And both disks are full over and over...

wow dude. that's a huge swap file Lips Sealed

yeah, filelight takes a while... like a minute or two on my machine. i'm not sure how it does the scanning, but i have a feeling it scans quite a big number of files.
