Sorry, I thought we're talking about registrations, cause that's the only thing I felt weird with - password field, even with confirmation, but not masked. Didn't notice the words 'log in' in freeflashgames's post.

mmm, I had a great time converting plain old input fields into beefy css input fields, but forgot to test registration.

Okay, I just stripped a boatload of useless stuff from the json; this should make responses about half as large as they were before. I'm also looking to add clientside CRUD-database functionality for superior content management.

Absolutely. You'll find an invitation in your PM box soon enough.
Your passwords are no longer transmitted in the clear. The server now expects sha256-hashed passwords, which the Javascript client is now capable of generating.

The advanced contact manager has been implemented! You can have

1) one-to-one mapping between alias and target (symbolic link)
2) one-to-many mapping (mailing list)
3) alias-to-alias (mailing list trees)

Just type the alias into the recipient box when you send your message.
This is made possible by a tiny clientside SQL DB engine, which will be used to implement other features in the future.

No... does Gears do that?

And the SQL capability is not too important; it's just a convenience feature since I'm familiar with SQL. But the searching, sorting, and CRUD features are awesome.

http://code.google.com/apis/gears/api_database.html

Google Gears uses the open source SQLite database system.
Quote
For information on the SQL syntax supported, see the SQLite document "SQL as Understood By SQLite", and also local modifications to SQLite, below. Google Gears includes SQLite's full-text search extension fts2.
Quote
var db = google.gears.factory.create('beta.database');
db.open('database-test');
db.execute('create table if not exists Test' +
           ' (Phrase text, Timestamp int)');

Google Gears includes an SQLite extension called fts2, for "Full-Text Search". fts2 allows you to create a table and search for words in TEXT data. An fts2 table is created as follows:
Quote
db.execute('CREATE VIRTUAL TABLE recipe USING fts2(dish, ingredients)');

That looks interesting. How does it incorporate SQLite? Using a Flash object?

I guess the DB engine I use can be considered much lighter than SQLite; it's pure Javascript.

Well, Firefox is powered by SQLite, so i doubt the overhead is that large. And Google Gears is an extension/plugin, not a framework. It's like AIR without the desktop.

 what about http://code.google.com/p/trimpath/wiki/TrimQuery?

You are absolutely right.

Hm, I just had this idea... how about rig up MailFeed so that it can accept mail for other domains? So you don't have to install it yourself if you want to try it out. Or... if you want to set up a messaging service for your friends or online community, you can do that with minimal hassle wink

What do you mean?

could that possibly make it more centralized (i think that's a bad thing...)?

It would make it more flexible. It would still be able to negotiate with other servers, but having the possibility of centralized operation makes it easy for people to try the product without committing to it. Otherwise... who's gunna install it, right?

Currently, email is P2P. MTA's act as both server and client.
