I'm going to state the (somewhat) unstated...
Most of us who care no longer use 110mb's hosting. We just love the community. We stick around the forum, and with every word we post, we continue to up rankings on search engines, etc.
So, I only care about this community. And honestly, if the new owner(s) can maintain better uptime, that would be great, possibly BETTER.
But we all fear the worst. We understand that there's hard economic times right now... this tends to cause people to get greedy, prices to rise to pay the bills. So in 110mb's case, this could mean that hosting places required ads. I had another free host who was ad-free at first and now forces ads.
And with horrible hosting, there goes half the forum community. If the new company can't pay the bills, then they could pull the plug on the forum.
These are my concerns people. We all love the OLD 110mb's philosophy. But It's been getting worse and worse.
But again, a new owner could turn things around.

This is an unpredictable game we're all part of, and I honestly don't see a winner.

I think we need a backup plan, a meeting place of some sort just in case 110mb spirals all the way to death. This is just me, and I really don't want a whole forum migration, but I almost feel like this is neccessary.
I've learned so much from these wonderful people surrounding me. From my first posts where I knew nothing about web design, to the more recent ones like "Vote for your favorite 110mb member!", I've had a lot of fun here.
If 110mb went down, I would lose a lot of friends. I would lose a valuable knowledge source. I would no longer hear about inp's latest projects, manicgames' rants, timthrill's money making opportunities, etc. We all have a part here, and I feel I may have finally found mine.

I will do whatever I can to keep this community together!!!!

Are there ANY ways of stopping abusers? It seems like the internet is being ruined with abusers. 110mb, most MMORPGS, and all other games for that matter, and many other free services. Isn't there SOME way to stop it?

Here's how you stop abusers....
The law/police derive from the people. So when the law isn't enforced, the people have to take matters into their own hands. DDOS, anyone? 
I'm sorry to say, that while that was a bit of a joke, it has truth behind it, and that abusers will cause chaos, directly or indirectly.

well if he has full access to the admin panel of the forum he should be able to make a back up of it

So, I guess the question is how much do the current 110mb forum ads (the only one I know of is at the top of every page, 3FN) bring in and is that enough to cover hosting and domain name?

If it all goes to s**t Diemux could patch SMF to download the DB, and im sure we could put it somewhere 


Lets just see what the new business is like, I liked the old head of technology at my school, he left and a new one came, I thought the new one was going to be a dick - turns out he is better than the old one

Gonna lock this for a while. Because some are naturally worried, hence negative comments.

Dozens of decision make like this before, where people freaked out. And the changes only improved the service as a result.

Same time again. Nothing changes. Same admins, same EVERYTHING. Just different CEO.

My vision is: It'll be sold to company with millions. Hence offering MYSQL free again. Hence turning 110mb in truly worlds biggest ad-free host.

I'll still be coordinating decisions.

Just so you don't freak out when you suddenly see 3rd party ads on your site for 2-7 days... sometime during July-Aug.

What will happen: You'll visit your site and you'll see a popover OR Adsense type of bar on top of site. This will last 2-7 days.

Reason: 110mb is changing it's business model. Going ads sometime end of 2009. See why here. It has to in order to get venture capital from investors and increase client growth rate by expansion of service and paid marketing campaigns.

This model has been postponed to 2010 with no specific month. But users will be notified at least 1.5 months before, should we even ever decide to implement ads.
