This is my stupid moment for the year. I wanted to post this for your enjoyment, laughs and snickering. -But I also wanted to post this because, some poor unfortunate fool (such as me) may find it someday and get his problem fixed.
About four days ago I booted up my computer, it booted fine. I went to my usual workings online, opened up about 10 tabs and they all connected to their respective servers. I then tried to type a username for a project and... nothing. I closed all tabs and went to google, tried to type and ...nothing. No letters or numbers or the tab key or backspace or, anything. So I figure FF3 has a glitch or I jacked something up with my infamous clicking habit.. I know im not the only one who does this (click,CLick, click,CLick, click,CLick, Until you accidentally click the wrong thing somewhere). Anyway, I close the browser in order to inspect the computer further, and to my dismay.. every folder opens to the desktop folder.. whether its my docs, control panel, network, my computer or anything, they ALL open to the desktop folder. So I try to right click on anything, and I get the windows "Critical battery alarm" sound. (I am now 15 mins into diagnosis.) Now im cussing. I reboot the computer, only to be presented with a very dim, very dark login screen? Cuss more. I reboot again, and again, and maybe a few more dozen times, I try standard, I try safe mode, I try network. Finally, I get a normal looking login screen. (I am now into 1 hr 15 min diagnosis.) After this minimal 1 hr 15 min irritattion, I am contemplating a complete system reload. Why not I think, I have two 300 gig externals that are empty, i'll backup and reload. Well I can't...Nothing works, keyboard functions, mouse functions, I cant connect or see anything at all. I go to online forums (with another computer) -can't find anything about this problem, no one has ever had such a problem it seems, I scour every web forum that exists. Nothing! (3 hrs 30 mins diagnosis.) Back to square one, I try it all again.. still no response. Its Flatlined, bodybag please!! Its time to reload I think... But before I do i'll make one more forum run. LUCKILY, I found ONE thread out there about a guy with a gaming mouse that had the backspace function enabled for a button that had went bad, ..well I have a gaming mouse, so I plugged in another, and ..nothing. ARRGGHHH!!! (approx 6 hrs diagnosis.) So.. I get out my disks, prepare my thumb drives, and close the door (lol). I insert my first recovery disk.. Start to power down, then up, and I remember..... ? (7 hrs total diagnosis) Didn't I used to have an old wireless keyboard around here somewhere?, so where is it? To my enjoyment and dis-belief (and total disgust) I find my 2 year old, still working, wireless keyboard... under my bed with a shoe on top of the backspace button. (relief at last)
I will always remember this as my most ignorant moment in computing!!
-I never knew a backspace button could do all that, but for your future reference, always remember your devices and externals. Hope someone ejoys this.. And I really hope someone in the future finds this thread useful, I think its the only one.
