I uploaded some version er something of easymod..now I cannot delete the files of the phpbb forum.

Could it have been a virus? Or did my account privileges  get locked er something?

Well..I was trying to add the easymod thing for my phpbb forum and it didn't work so then I found this so called fixed version of it at this site:

http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=25716

It was supposed to be for awardspace er something...maybe thats why??

Anyways after I installed it still didn't work, but this time I got locked out of my forum admin and also am not able to delete the forum folder or anything else in it Sad

I can't help you with the mod things coz i don't know any thing about them. but

if you just wish to delete the files / folders try FTP cilent my bet is to use filezilla

and then you can again install the forum.

Hmm...well, its strange...I just went back after an hour of trying was able to SLOWLY DELETE all the files except ONE and I just named it virus and also the 4 level deep path I named each as virus folders...not sure why it wont delete but it says I do not have permissions.

Maybe it will clear up later as well.

I will try installing my forum again now I guess but I dont like the idea that I cant get rid of that last file.

Could it be due to them transferring date to other server?

I just went to my control panel and was messing around in the folder that file I named virus in it and it was empy...then I changed the permissions and it now poped up with a few more DIR's and at the end it shows a folder called images hmmm!

if you are a box 2 user then you don't have to worry about that (i suppose so by your no of posts)

and try ftp client and set the ftp client to show hidden files their might be hidden files which are stoping the deletion of folder.

Hmm alright...but for some reason I was just now able to delete the rest of it...that was not cool.

I have just been using the IE6 FTP and my 110mb control panel...sometimes I use editpad pro as well.

Two questions tho..what is a box2 user? I noticed seeing something like box1 on my myminiadmin.php but had no clue what it meant.

So what is box1 and 2 mean?

Users who have registered after 1 JAN 2007 are using box2 (server-name)
and those before that are using BOX1.
BOX1 currently has around 30K users so a new BOX3 is prepared and 15K will be shifted to box3.

I think i have cleared your doubt.

=.= If Linux get into virus problems so easily, will a Windows server survive?

I am again going to repeat this its not a virus, its some kind of server related problem but not in any ways a virus

and as for the author : - goitalone
Please remove the trailing VIRUS from the first post so as not to confuse people
Because this is what you think and you have called it virus but in no way you know that it is virus

Not everything is a Virus! Step by Step Check your setup first!
Go and login then open File Manager and first check your Permissions setting on the peticular files you like to delete!

I also had the problem, that I could not delete files from within File Manager but you have more then one way and it worked by using FTP!

Below is an explanation which should be clear and easy to understand!(If it worked let as know!

Link to the topic  below: http://www.110mb.com/forum/index.php/topic,4581.msg29101.html#msg29101

Quote
u= user (who is represented as user the Domain owner ore the Server operator?)
r=read
w=write
x=execute
g=group (who is considered as group Domain owner and anyone alls?)

This is my setting now as below!

I ask this because I unchecked all except on g=group to r=read only.
I am able to open my html file and also I can edit in file manager without problems is that normal!
If the execute is ticked what function does it have? I can Execute what?

This is particular clear and Note the relation to FTP function, and the x=execute instruction for Directories!
Quote
Great got it! Thank' member robleyd smiley
That makes it very clear to understand!
As simple it is but this is a good thread for other members to look at! Especially the ones have FTP function problems!

u= user =   related to FTP access functions
g= group = access functions in file manager
x=  in this case enables the opening of a Directory

But only one setting is behaving strange, under g=group I deselected w=write you should not be able to edit the html file in file manager, but what it actually does is! When I edit the file and saved it, automatically resets and tick's the write function! must be a default server setting doing this!

Anyhow thank you very much for the detailed explanation! Would I had looked in Google search I probably still be seaching for the correct answer!

I am using box1 then I guess...cause I registerd early last month.

Anyways, thanks, for the replies and I was able to get rid of that last file eventually. But I am still not sure what the exact problem was.

I will edit the post if I can
