You have a few options: 1. Upgrade 2. Create/Find a crack to get past that 3. Switch to another IM client that never even asks you to upgrade, such as Pidgin

I don't know pidgin is pretty neat, it can also be used as an irc client as well as yahoo, aol, gchat or tons of other types of chat stuff. manic that's nothing new, you should be used to it, they've done this with nearly every version of windows that has come out....... Just the same ol upgrade dance, and they have every right to do it, so upgrade or use a different IM client

msn is the pooptiest messenger. it even flags mp3 files as potentially dangerous.

Listen, don't matter what you say. They own the software the can do what the hell they want . You read the T&C's, right? If you did you would of accepted that if they want to ugrade you they can. Ticking the box is saying you agree, and you did :d

msn sucks, and because it's proprietary, they can do that.

I usually like newer versions of stuff. I feel like there must be a reason why a software developer will make newer version, to make it better.

Often, it is to keep the $'s rolling in thats exactly right! i also think this. there are some programs that seem to update all the time and those are usually bundled with yahoo toolbar or google toolbar or something. those companies get paid for installs of those toolbars. its lame but its money

Also Microsoft do not make money out of giving you better messengers for free, they make money out of making you buy new versions of windows, that's business.....

Back in the old days when I used msn messenger, I used to use a program called messenger plus to remove the ads, it worked well.....

i dont have ads on mine either because i dont use msn HAHA. 2 years ago it pissed me off after someone sent me a mp3 and then it blocked it. that pissed me off beyond belief. i waited like 10 min for the song and then it says its unsafe or whatever. that really pissed me off. there was nothing wrong with the file when i finally got it through email. no other program ever blocked mp3s and told me they are unsafe.
