html, css and some JS...

« on: November 27, 2008, 06:59:14 PM »

Hello all!!

I'm not sure if it has been done before here, or if it's the right place for posting it, but this is a browser poll!

The reason I'm posting this is because one of a site-developer's major problems is making the website compatible with most common web browsers (and we all know there ARE differences between each). And this applies especially for someone like me, who usually develop using client side languages (HTML, JS).

Please answer sincerely, so me and others can make compatible sites for your favourite browser!

Thank you for your cooperation!

PS: You may be using (as a site developer) more than one browser. But please, choose only the one you mostly use and ya think is de best!

the most common browser is Internet Explorer closely followed by Firefox and then Safari somewhere after that....

they're the only real ones you need to worry about, most of the rest fall into line with firefox/safari since they're standards compliant, the trouble maker tends to be I.E especialy version 6 which is the lowest version you need worry about

I've been using IE for the last 4 years, untill a few months ago my brother introduced me to Firefox (and his friend is a programmer for Firefox)..
Since then, I 3/4 use the Fox and 1/4 IE (simply because there are un-firefox-friendly sites).

I gotta admit, though, I've noticed huge differences between IE and Firefox, as a web-builder. One problem with Firefox is its problem to display object tags (embed) which aren't flash, you can't see it unless you have the right add-on. IE uses Active X for this.

I need to add a thing to that sig saying it's not completely accurate yet, though with al the browsers out there it'll probably always be a adjusting experience so to speak....

Opera is really fast at rendering, and is great with speeds, but it's weak in javascript / flash area.

And customization area. Duh It has good built-in features (mail client, torrent client), but many of them are bloat. This is why I like extensions (like in Firefox) - add what you need, if you don't need it anymore, kick it out, always keep the amount of features you need, not more, not less.

FireFox 3. Mainly cos of the plugins especially FireBug!!!!. I tried Opera, i didnt really like it, there wasnt as many "Widgets" as FF's addons and most of them weren't even useful to me. I use IE7 only when checking my HTML pages to make sure it looks ok
